Measuring Perceived Ethical Climate: Development and Validation of the Perceived Ethical Climate Questionnaire

SAKURAI Kenji(Nihon University)

The current study developed a perceived ethical climate questionnaire based on theory of moral development (Kohlberg,1981) and ethical climate model (Victor & Cullen,1988). An initial pool of 78 items was subjected to a series of item analyses and a final set of 37 items was chosen. A confirmatory factor analysis suggests that this final set of items measure perceptions of eight different ethical climate dimentions. Evidence for construct validity was sought by means of nomological network analyses. Results suggested that each perceived ethical climate dimentions are related to employee ethical attitudes and behaviors in theoretically predicted manners. Practical and theoretical implications,as well as implications for future research, are discussed.
