The purpose of this research was to investigate a career developmental model of the young adulthood stage focusing on the process of new employees’ organizational socialization.
The participants were one hundred and eighty-five new employees of several Japanese companies who had spent the first six months.
A multistage path model proposed a priori was constructed by the following ten variables: five variables composing the primary step were career maturity, information seeking, support by supervisor, support by coworkers, and role conflict; a variable composing the second step was unmet expectation; three variables composing the third step were career image, self-efficacy, and recognition of chance which were summarized as future perspectives ; the dependent variable was intention of occupational change.
Major findings were as follows: (1) information seeking influenced unmet expectation; (2) support by supervisor and coworkers influenced unmet expectation; (3) role conflict influenced unmet expectation; (4) future perspectives influenced intention of occupational change.
