In today’s Japan, the tendency of increasing in the problems of mental health on employees comes to matter. Stress, the main factor causing them, comes from human relationship in the working place. Many previous studies deal with human relations in the working place. But they do not discuss how employees recognize the range of the working place. In this paper, we consider qualitatively how employees in the small and medium-sized enterprise recognize the range of the working place. The reason for choosing employees in the small and medium-sized enterprise as the informants is that there are few chances to exchange human resources and to change staff positioning, and also there is no regulation on mental health for employees. The findings in the analysis by grounded theory approach suggest “the range in the working place is the one with the individual variation judged from the possession of relations in work and a common goal”.
